AN ANCIENT BATTLE GROUND

I REALLY need to get a copy of this book and see just how far into it I can get without barfing. This is what I was born for and the battle is about to be waged, full force and taking no prisoners. The damned liberals stand against everything I stand for. One of the perceived problems with liberals is that they are against every thing. Not true, they are for many things. Dark, evil wicked things. Things like: (1)attacking my church and my God; (2)not honoring the veterans who have bled and died for this country; (3)not respecting gun rights and hunting; (4) They do believe in not getting blood on their hands (at least human blood). That task is left up the everyday slobs like me and my friends who have served our country honorably..The heroes are not just those who put on a military uniform but all of those who put on any type of uniform. Police Officers, fire fighters, ambulance crews. The list goes on and on and on.

My eyes are beginning to close i had better log off..

William Martin

DESCRIPTION

In a political and media environment dominated by corporate and conservative interests, liberals need every opportunity to be heard, without distortion and in their own words. What Liberals Believe contains thousands of cutting-edge quotations culled from the best alternative media sources and the keenest progressive minds, past and present—Michael Moore, Rosa Parks, Bill Clinton, Howard Dean, Anna Quindlen, Frank Rich, Oscar Wilde, Barbara Ehrenreich, John F. Kennedy, and others. Covering topics from Christian fundamentalism to the Iraq War, from feminism to homophobia, What Liberals Believe is packed with timely, insightful quotations covering hundreds of critical issues. (And, to be fair and balanced, there is a section of "Callous and Clueless Quotes from the Right.") What Liberals Believe will appeal to anyone who has grown weary of the extremism of the shameless right and needs a fresh perspective on American political life.

I hate no one. There are just some people I dislike more than others.
Liberals, people who have sign in as anonymous, mass murders, people like that. I have no idea how old you are. what you have done with your life to justify your existence or how much you know about World history as well American History. Ditto for world and American politics over the past 3 or 4 hundred years.

I am soon to be 64 years old. I was born 33 days after D-Day, the 6th June, 1944. I did not get to know my dad for nearly a year because he was in Europe fighting that war. He was a hero.

I grew up during the Korean War, later the Cuban fiascal. Then came the fun 1960's with the hippies and dropouts, flower power and all of that fun stuff. And then came Viet Nam, not a bad place to be as long as no one was shooting at you. I was already in Air Force blue (stayed in for 20 years)so I just had to see what it was all about and volunteered to go. Lovely year, no one ever shot directly at me. Shooting was going on all around us and even over us at times.

I spent 30 years as a single father
raising a daughter and a son. I have 4 beautiful grandchildren and a wife who is severely handcicapped.

By the way, I described myself but as one of the every day slobs who serve their country, community and families 24/7.

What is your track record and what makes you are qualified to fight a battle of wit and words with an old country boy like me????

Next time around come better prepared, or keep your damned garbage to yourself.

It would appear to me that you think you what this all about; I know what it is all about because I have lived it, read it, listened to real heroes.

What is your definition of a hero. Hilary, don't make me laugh. I remember those 8 years in the White House. Barak, he is still either a political babe in the woods who just doesn't get it, politically speaking. Maybe he does really get it and he is just using his slick silver tongue to lull and sooth voters and convince them that he really is a good guy after all.

I agree with your anonymous critic. You are angry, bitter, and self-righteous. Instead of looking forward, you look back. Instead looking inward for ways to improve yourself, you are looking for scapegoats, someone to blame for all of your sacrifices and misfortunes. You are no hero because a hero does things on behalf others without an expectation of something in return. You act like a guy who thinks the world owes him something. You have grown older but not wiser. Get over yourself. It is never too late to start taking responsibility for yourself. Stop blaming others.

Thank you hero! I bought that book, What Liberals Believe. What a revelation. There are over 700 pages of richness and vitality and hope. I will read this book cover to cover.

Do you have any other books you want to burn, ban, or just denounce? With your keen instincts, I could stock an entire library.

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
- George Orwell

Chew on that for a while. I know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

Where did I ever say I was a hero??
And you two don't Know me and yet you race to pass judgment on me.

Hate is an extremely powerful emotion and only harms the hater, not the one being hated. It is an emotion that take over your life and destroy you. Now personally this old country boy just is not into self destruction. I figure I am good for another 30 or 40 years of having fun tweaking noses like yours.....and your anonymous friend.

I love you guys, really I do. I just wish you two would grow up enough to find better, more, effective ways of trying to cut me down. What you have come up with so far is juvenile, judgmental, and you are doing the very same thing that you accuse me of being.

Come on ladies, if this is the best you can do, then please stop spewing your lack of intelligence and intelligence. I do like a good challenge and a battle of wits and words but I fear that I am dueling with unarmed opponents. Stop wasting your time and mine.

Duane

I like your spunk old guy. You're just trying to keep the mind active I guess.

And the country boy schtick is so cute. I have a grandpa who does your routine because he never got over his lack of education. He often mouthed quotes he didn't understand -- stuff he cut out of old Reader's Digest magazines. We finally had to take away his scissors. By the way, that Orwell saying is a liberal quote. In fact, I think the quote is in the book What Liberals Believe. Check it out. It's never too late for some of that fancy book learnin.

George Orwell was a socialist for God's sake! And this country bumpkin thinks he's a conservative beacon of truth.

Note to fellow anonymous bloogers: Why the interest in this attention-starved old man? Have you no pity?

As days go by, Duane's "battle of wit and words" is looking more like surrender.

Duane, do you have any other socialists you want to quote? Or are you afraid of making a fool of yourself again?

Unknown said...

Pardon me??? Who is making a fool of themselves?? I don't surrender to anyone, especially to a group of kids like you guys. All you seem to know is attack, attack, attack. Are you incapable of of coming up with some arguments in defense of your side of things?

As for the quote, what difference who said it? It a truth, and I happened to agree with it. Don't you? If you being as honest and perceptive as you should be you should recognize it as a truth.

I do not have a socialist quote handy but I do have one from one of our original American Liberals:

"The citizens of the United States of America have the right to
applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an
enlarged and liberal policy worthy of imitation. All possess
alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship. It
is now no more that toleration is spoken of as if it were by
the indulgence of one class of citizens that another enjoyed
the exercise of their inherent natural rights, for happily
the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no
sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that they
who live under its protection should demean themselves as good
citizens in giving it on all occasions their effectual support."

-- George Washington (letter to the Hebrew Congregation of Newport,
Rhode Island, 9 September 1790)

Those liberals fought and died for their beliefs. What are you willing to fight and die for?

Hey Duane,

How's that book coming? The one you said you wanted to buy: What Liberals Believe: Thousands of Quotes on Why America Needs to Be Rescued from Greedy Corporations, Homophobes, Racists, Imperialists, Xenophobes, and Religious Extremists.

Are you afraid?

Maybe you'd prefer to stay sealed in this safe little bubble you have formed for yourself. You posture like a macho man, but lack the courage to engage ideas that might be contray to your own.

Read the book. Find something you can agree with.

PS: Your blood-and-guts GI Joe act is getting stale. Show us a little intellectual integrity and humility. Show us what a tough guy you really are.

Isn't the Internet wonderful! Where else could an "everyday slob" "shoot off his mouth" with impunity [look it up] and hope that someone might actually be paying attention? Duane, when you talk about fighting, and dying, and hunting, [and barfing], you are no longer an insignificant little man, but an Internet Warrior. Believe it or not, you are starting to attract a following among young liberals. Checking out your blog is like visiting the zoo. We can't wait to see what you will say next.

Question #1: Do you wear a uniform when you blog?

Question #2: Is your pugnacious manner a cry for help?
